NEW ORLEANS (December 11, 2013) – The Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, R+L Carriers, Entergy and Chevron have awarded two local student-athletes with $5,000 in scholarship funds to support the pursuit of higher education.
The Chevron and Entergy Scholarship Awards are presented annually in conjunction with the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl to support two graduating New Orleans area students planning on attending a university in the state of Louisiana. This year’s recipients are Traylynn Coleman, a Senior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Advanced Studies, and Herman Thomas IV, a Senior at Archbishop Rummel High School.
Coleman has played volleyball for Thomas Jefferson High School for three years, is a member of the National Honor Society, the National English Honor Society, Key Club and Next Generation, and plans on majoring in nursing or pharmacy in college. Thomas has played football for Archbishop Rummel for four years and acts as Varsity team captain. He is the Senior Class President and a member of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program and Campus Ministry. “I’m very excited to give Traylynn and Herman, two admirable students, the Chevron and Entergy Scholarship Awards,” said bowl Community Relations Director Risa Hall. “The R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl is about so much more than just the game, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to give back to our community on a yearly basis.”
